It’s black - it’ll really show the dirt! It’s far to complex! It’s a 12 year old German car.

How am I doing?

Haha, I mean it’s not in bad shape for 161k. PPI is a must if you are any kind of serious. I’d say if you’re comfortable buying it with the notion that you could spend another 10 in the first year of ownership, do it!

I'm glad Walter Sobchak is your avatar, because you're entering a world of pain, Smokey. A world of pain. The E65 7 series is one of the worst cars ever conceived, and they make W210s look like a Toyota Camrys. Bad idea.

No. Hell no man. Not without a Doug Demuro Styled unlimited milage warranty anyway. Keeping that thing on the road is like having an extra mortgage payment every month.

You want a v12 with a roundel, find an e38 750iL.

A front window regulator is $400, and you will go through them like candy. And a motor costs another $200. Oh and don’t think about getting an aftermarket one, they’re even worse than the OEM one.

The HPFP’s don’t last and cost several thousand to rebuild.

Do you like oil leaks, because BMW’s leak from every possible location, and they do it even after replacing gaskets. I just had to replace a timing cover gasket on an N62 with only 20k miles on its replacement.

Don’t buy a BMW, stick with Mercedes.

I’ve been meaning to ask what your experience has been with yours. I’ll be able to afford an S600 soon but I’m wondering how much I should save for maintenance before jumping in.

In other words, how much will I love/hate myself a month after buying one?

Generally, your mileage may vary. Above all else find the best example you can, it’ll save you lots later. I bought mine last June with 85,000 miles and a malfunctioning intercooler pump (it would only work if the temperature was under about 60 degrees) and a broken passenger seat airbag sensor. Since then I’ve spent about $3800 maintaining it, though $2600 of that was in one bill for a blown ABC high pressure line, and that would have only been about $2000, but I had the mechanic toss in the aforementioned intercooler pump that needed replacing anyways. Another $1000 went to a sheared idler belt pulley. Things that will just go bad over time are the $1500 a piece coil-packs(which last about 60,000 miles) intercooler pumps , the passenger airbag sensor($~900). The elephant in the corner is the ABC hydropnumatic suspension, which can make or break your repair budget. The other S600 owner on oppo is selling his right now because of a very costly ABC bill. After all this talk of scary repair bills, the S600 must seem like a very fast way to burn your money, but it’s not. The car is simultaneously the most comfortable and fastest car I’ve ever owned . The acceleration is simply un believable, along with the surreal quiet in the cabin at any speed . Looking back on my ownership experience I regret absolutely nothing. Waking up and realizing that you have a bi-turbo V12 S class for Honda Civic money is one of the best feelings you can experience . If you are in a financial position to buy one and you know the cost of maintaining it, Go for it ! Just do your homework and feel free to message me on here at any time with questions.

Awesome, this is what I was looking for! I know about the ABC system and that would be in my “budget for before buying” category, but it’s good to know about the 60,000 mile coil packs and other issues as well.

For now it’s right on the edge of dream vs reality with the maintenance costs, but I’ve also got the Bently CGT (for much the same reason as the S600, but W12) and a V10 Audi R8 on my “cars I will definitely own” list. I think maintenance cost nightmares are my future.

Thanks for the advice! I’m sure I’ll have more questions when the time comes.

No problem. I’d be wary of the CGT if only because of dubious VAG quality. The way I see it is that the VAG W12 is like a Benz V12 but much more complicated and abjectly worse.

I’ve done some research and my initial findings line up with that, it’s what pointed me to a S600. There are a surprising number of CGTs that have 150-200k miles on them, which seems odd.

Either way, I’d likely own it for a few months and then pass it on, I just want the experience!
